Pavers, laid right
Paver Installation in Bridgeport
Paver installation lays concrete or stone pavers over a compacted base, and we do it for patios, walkways and driveways on residential and commercial properties across Bridgeport.
We pour concrete and set pavers, so one visit can weigh both for your yard instead of steering you to the only thing we sell. The estimate is free and on your property, and the quote covers the whole job before we start, with no surprise charges after.
Interlocking pavers are what the trade calls a "segmental pavement", and the Concrete Masonry & Hardscapes Association is the industry association for that work.
Where they go
Patios, Walkways and Driveways
Pavers suit patios, walkways, driveways, steps and pool surrounds. Tell us which one on the call and we look at it on the estimate.
Patios
An outdoor floor behind the house, laid in the pattern and color you pick.
Walkways
A path from the street, the driveway or the back door, edged so it holds its line.
Driveways
Pavers carry cars when the gravel base under them is dug and compacted for the load.
Steps
Treads and risers in the same paver as the patio or walk they lead to.
Pool surrounds
A deck around the pool where one damaged paver lifts out and is replaced on its own.
From the dig to the sweep
How Pavers Are Laid
Most of a paver job is the part you never see, and it runs in the same order every time, from the dig to the last sweep of sand.
- Mark and dig
The outline is marked and the soil or old surface comes out to the depth the base needs. Before any digging, buried utilities are marked through Call Before You Dig, Connecticut's one-call center.
- Gravel base
The "base course", the gravel layer under the pavers, goes in and is compacted. Its depth depends on what the dig turns up and what the surface will carry.
- Bedding sand
A thin layer of sand is screeded flat over the base so every paver sits on an even bed.
- The pavers
The pavers are set in the pattern you chose, and the ones along the edges are cut to fit.
- Edge restraint
An "edge restraint" is fixed along the open sides so the field of pavers cannot creep apart.
- Joint sand
Sand is swept into the joints and the surface is compacted again to lock the pavers together. There is no slab to cure, so it is ready to use.

Pavers or Poured Concrete
Pavers go in as soon as they arrive and cost less to repair, while one poured slab needs less upkeep, and on ground with drainage, root or soil problems pavers may be the better fit.
For wet, rooty or soft ground
Pavers
- Laid as soon as they arrive, with no curing wait.
- A damaged paver lifts out and is replaced, so repairs cost less.
- Suit sites with drainage problems, heavy root activity or unstable soil.
- Many joints instead of one surface, so more upkeep than a slab.
Poured concrete
- Has to cure on site before it takes traffic.
- A repair costs more than lifting out a paver.
- One continuous slab, plain or decorative, with no paver joints to keep up.
- Needs less upkeep than pavers.
We pour concrete too, so on the estimate we look at the ground and price whichever suits it, or both.
